South King Fire & Rescue News

In partnership with the City of Des Moines, South King Fire & Rescue (SKFR) will be offering a “Community Emergency Response Team” (CERT) course in January 2019. In this *free*, 7-8 week course, participants will learn how to prepare their homes and neighborhoods in order to respond to a disaster. The course covers: light search and rescue techniques, disaster medical skills, terrorism education, fire safety and suppression techniques and more.

This course is open to residents (aged 18 ) of the SKFR service area, and priority for the January 2019 course will be given to residents of the city of Des Moines. Starting on January 16th, 2019, course sessions will run for 7-8 weeks, occurring on Wednesday nights from 6pm-9pm. A final drill will occur on a Saturday following the last session (date TBD). Most of the course sessions will occur at the City of Des Moines Police Department, with one or two sessions taking place at SKFR station #68 (free parking at both locations).
