Most of us have heard of CPR or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, it is the skill that allows you help keep a person alive when they have suffered “sudden cardiac arrest”. If you have not taken a class recently or if the length of the class or cost kept you from learning how to do perform CPR, we encourage you to learn “Hands Only” CPR. You can learn in minutes, there is NO mouth to mouth and knowing what to do can literally save a life.

You may have seen an AED on the wall at the airport or perhaps at your place of work and not known just how they are used. AED stands for Automatic External Difibulator, these machines are safe and user friendly,  If you are called upon to perform CPR and also use an AED, the patients survival rate is increased fourfold. You don’t need specialized training because they actually talk you through each step and they won’t apply a shock to the patient unless the onboard computer determines the need.

More than 1000 people experience Sudden Cardiac Arrest every single day in the USA and unless someone performs CPR and/or uses an AED the chances of surviving is doubtful.  South King Fire & Rescue teaches free classes of Hands only CPR and the use of  an AED so you will know what to do if you are ever confronted with someone who needs your help.
