Requirements for Firefighter Employment
Overview
Once the candidate is notified of an open position, they must provide evidence of the following requirements for employment:
  • Must be 21 years old, as of the date of hire
  • Must be able to work variable shifts, including shifts that require 24 hours of consecutive duty
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Show proof of a driving record free from serious or frequent violations
  • Show proof of successful passing of the Bates CPAT physical Test
  • Successful passing of a criminal background check
  • Successful passing of a Medical and Psychological Exam, paid for by the department
