King County Car Seat Safety Inspections
Car seat safety inspections are essential to make sure children ride in cars safely.
Certified Car Seat Technicians
A certified technician will not only look at your current seat but will teach you how to install your car seat and educate you about the types of safety seats appropriate for your child and your needs as they grow.
Car Seats Save Lives
Car seats and boosters provide protection for infants and children in a crash, yet car crashes are a leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 13. That's why it's so important to choose and use the right car seat correctly every time your child is in the car.
Proper Installation is Key
A nationwide field study of car-seat use and installation back in 2011 found that 46% of car seats were installed or used incorrectly, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found, based on 4,167 inspections and driver interviews. Other studies found over 70% of seats were either improperly installed or misused.
It's the Law
According to the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 46.61.687:
- Kids less than 8 years old must be secured in some form of child safety system unless the child is 4 feet 9 inches or taller and the seat belt fits correctly.
- Kids older than 8 years old or taller than 4 feet 9 inches must ride with a secure seat belt. If the seat belt does not fit correctly the child must remain in a child restraint regardless of height or weight
- Children under the age of 13 years old should ride in the backseat whenever it is practical.
